This product has historically been a photoshop job of photos and renders due to the difficulty in getting a realistic render. With the goal of adding more realism to match the real life product, I’ve been working on this off and on over the last few months, refining the clear materials, the lighting materials, LED bulbs, their diode lighting elements, translucent white label, has been a fun challenge. Next will be taking a photo of the PCB for extra realism, but the lighting and materials are finally where I want them
LEDs + Clear plastic
Awesome! Such objects are quite a puzzle, even with real life photography. It’s nice you still have the shape of the LED visible instead of just a glow. A glow can work really nice as well but not if you want to show the interior lit by the LEDs.
Did you end up with emissive parts and some kind of omni/point light to lit the surroundings?
within the CAD of the LED lens, I added 2 spheres, one sphere has a pointlight, that affects the LED lens so that it refracts a bright color itself; and the other - an area light, casts the color throughout the body, here’s the settings for both, shown with denoise turned off, with denoise turned on it smooths all the dots out. this is using the default ‘Product’ settings, no caustics, no firefly reduction:
Works really well and great you show how you did it. I was also playing with some LEDS a while ago after a video from Will, also noticed that having a bit more detail in your led helps a lot to get a more realistic appearance.
Just noticed when I looked at the denoised result above on 100% that I saw a bit weird reflections, I think easy to solve smoothing the normals from the inner part of the plastic I think. Don’t think anyone would notice but since you seem to strife for perfection I thought to mention it
These looks great, and it looks like it is a hard piece to get right!
as someone that works with LED’s and light pipes and clear and translucent materials all the time, those look great! using the dual trick with one doing the emissive and one doing the illumination is pretty much the only way to do it in keyshot. i hope they are able to figureo ut how to merge the lighting materials a bit so we have more control over them in one material. would sure help a lot.
These look fantastic!
This looks great! Love seeing projects with LEDs and clear plastics as I work with those often. Love how you lit the scene and got some awesome reflections that give it that more realistic look but also don’t take away from the product. Your plastic material looks awesome as well!
I HAD NOT HAD TIME TO SEE THE TITANIC WORK YOU DID TO ACHIEVE THE EFFECT IT IS DEFINITELY VERY WELL REPRESENTED IN THE RENDER, AND THE DEGREE OF DETAIL YOU ACHIEVED IS IMPRESSIVE, CONGRATULATIONS
